People, What Happened to Leads and Collars? |

Near where I live there is a popular hiking, jogging, walking and dog trail. It is a pet friendly network of mountain trails with amazing views and enough elevation to make for a nice workout. Because of this, there is an even mix of people there to workout and people there to do the same but with man’s best friend. After a certain point in the beginning part of the trail, leads and collars are not required. It effectively lets all the K-9s on some pretty steep trails, run free. For the most part the people who bring their dogs here have well trained animals but every trip there is that one person trying to catch up with their tongue hanging out of the mouth furry friend who is running between people’s legs, barking at other dogs and causing a ruckus.
These are the dogs who need leads and collars. Just because there is sign saying leashes not required doesn’t means all dogs should run free. With how cheap leads and collars are online there is no excuse for pet owners not to have them especially on a well traveled trail.
