dog food

When my husband was laid off from his job of over 15 years we had to find ways to cut corners until he got back to work. The most apparent and easiest thing we immediately changed was eating out for meals. It was always simple to eat out or pick up food with our crazy work schedules so we never really thought about the cost. When money became an issue we were very surprised at what we spent on food. Ever since we have become avid grocery shoppers, cooking at home and cutting coupons.

Another area that saved us money right off the bat was dog food. For some unknown reason it was important to me that our two dogs ate the best and one of the most expensive brands of dog food available. I have since learned that the best dog food doesn't have to be the most costly brand. By comparison shopping the ingredients I found that I could buy bulk dog food at a local animal feed shop. It is not a brand name dog food but the ingredients are comparable. The feed shop even has an on line website that I have used to further save on gas and time.

Even now that my husband is back to work we still incorporate some of the valuable life lessons learned while he was laid off and funds were low. We have been able to keep up with a strict savings plan with the extra cash so we are better prepared if there is a next time.
